Modern technology and long-standing traditions

Our history stretches back more than 100 years, when engineer Francis Sønnichsen founded Francis Sønnichsen Elektrotekniske Entreprenørforretning in 1910. With new co-owners on board, the company later changed its name to Elektrisitetsfirmaet Sønnichsen & Co., and in 1929 opened an electrical store on Oslo's main street. A store that would remain for more than 50 years. Sønnichsen’s company became the foundation for several other businesses.

Elektrisitetsfirmaet Sønnichsen & Co. produced lamps, refrigerators, and kitchen stoves. After the war, the lamps at the Norwegian Parliament and on the Royal Yacht were designed and manufactured by Sønnico, as the company was then called.

Already in the interwar period, electrical systems for ships, transformers, and main switchboards were key areas of expertise, which saw continued development after the war. With the rise of offshore oil activity on the continental shelf came new challenges. Sønnico took part in this development, and for a period, electrical work offshore became the company’s largest area of business.

In more recent years, different service areas and the Sønnico name have been sold, while the technical division has remained - from 2006 as Proxll AS. In 2010, we celebrated our 100th anniversary.
